The RISER by EMS Innovations

THE RISER by EMS Innovations is a compact, firefighter-designed tool for safe, controlled patient lifting. Weighing under 40 lbs and built from medical-grade materials, it’s durable, easy to clean, and trusted by first responders across the USA.

Lift smarter, not harder

The Riser is the ultimate solution for safe, controlled patient lifting from ground level. Designed by an active firefighter & tailored for Fire/EMS operations, this sleek and portable device reduces the injury risks associated with lifting fall patients.

Using cutting edge patented technology, The Riser provides a 3:1 mechanical advantage when lifting a patient from supine to an upright seated position. It is safer for the both the patient & operator, and streamlines the lifting process by providing a 3:1 mechanical advantage. When operated by two responders, a 300lb patient can be lifted using only 50lbs of force per person Crafted from medical-grade stainless steel & HDPE (high density polyethylene), it’s built to last.

Weighing 38 lbs, measuring only 22” wide, and equipped with rear swivel caste wheels,The Riser can get into tight places, rotate 360°, and assist lifting patients up to 300lbs. The nonporous surface is completely resistant to mold, bacteria, heat, corrosion, and bodily fluids. As such, it’s easily sanitized by simply spraying & wiping. And with virtually identical dimensions to a backboard, it’s ready to stow on your apparatus without any modifications or special mounting needed.

Injury Statistics & Financial Sense

Strains and sprains are the most common types of firefighter injuries (FEMA, 2020; NFPA, 2023). Back injuries specifically are the #1 cause of medical retirements due to injuries (IAFF, 2000). According to ‘The Economics of Firefighter Injuries in the US’ written by the US Department of Commerce in 2019, the average cost of a firefighter strain or sprain is $12,769 per incident – with some injury costs reaching well over $100,000. The Riser is priced at $5,995.

In an era of shrinking budgets and having to do more with less, consider this: If The Riser prevents ONE single strain or sprain for ONE employee just ONE time, statistically speaking it will pay for itself twice over.  And because it will fit conveniently in your backboard compartment, there is no need to remove any current equipment nor are any special storage modifications needed.
